"Whenever I purchase something, like most people, I do research. I had several debt settlement companies call me after I had filled out my information on their website. I talked to several companies and actually visited a couple of them, but their model of taking fees up front and basing it on the entire amount of the debt and not the actual debt settled kinda didn't make sense to me. Also, setting up a bank account with some obscure bank out of state that the settlement company help set up didn't bode well with me. "In July, I lost my job as a pharmacist that paid over $110K. Due to my age (71), my health situation (significant foot and leg problems from complications of diabetes), and the state of the economy and job market, I was unable to replace my job.
